Care for the Mother
Carry on the Traditions
Mara Ina Academy trains doulas, birth workers and community builders in Urut Isiwa, the traditional Moluccan postpartum massage and healing, and in the wider Malay traditions of healing and care that surrounds a new mother.
A way of caring for new mothers that has been passed from hand to hand.
Urut Isiwa is the postpartum massage tradition of the Maluku Islands. It sits inside a larger practice of care: warmth, herbs, rest, belly binding and the company of women who know what the weeks after birth ask of a body.
At Mara Ina Academy you learn the technique itself and the context it grew from, including berpantang in the wider Malay sense. You practise with real clients under supervision, so the skill lands in your hands and not only in your notes.
